SCOUTING REPORT
|
| The Pirates signed Kratz before the 2009 season as a minor league free agent. Kratz was impressive, not only at the plate with his .273/.337/.470 line in 319 at-bats, but with his skills behind the plate. The Pirates liked him so much that they re-signed him in September for the 2010 season.
The Pirates released catcher Robinzon Diaz later in the off-season, which made Kratz the new number three catcher in the organization. With Ryan Doumit’s injury history, there’s a good chance that Kratz will find himself in the majors at some point this year, backing up Jason Jaramillo. If the Pirates eventually decide to trade Doumit before Tony Sanchez is ready to arrive, Kratz could take over as the full time backup in the majors. |
