SCOUTING REPORT
Melillo looked like a decent second base prospect just a few years ago, with some pop in his bat, and a great ability to get on base.  Since the 2006 season, when Melillo was rated the fifth best prospect in the Oakland farm system, he has fallen to the level of organizational depth.  Melillo hit for a .280 average, with a .793 OPS in 2006 at the AA level.  He spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons in AAA, and while his average dropped to .260, his OPS is still at the .793 level in that time.

Melillo suffered some injuries in 2008, which could have derailed his progress in 2009.  He spent the 2009 season with the Brewers AA club, and saw his OPS dip to .737 in 385 at-bats.  Melillo is organizational depth at this point, but at 28 years of age, he’s a guy to keep an eye on.  Melillo has a strong arm and plays third base along with second base.  If he returns to his .790 OPS days, he could turn in to a decent utility player in the majors.
