WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
| Pimentel was one of the Pirates’ better pitching prospects in the DSL in 2011-12. They haven’t gotten a great deal of pitching out of their international program the last few years, aside from Luis Heredia. Their focus has been heavily skewed toward hitters, just the opposite of their approach in the draft. Pimentel throws 88-91 with a good slider.
2011 Pimentel started and relieved in his debut season, but overall his workload was limited. He fanned a lot of hitters. 2012 The Pirates increased Pimentel’s workload while using him both as a starter and closer. He continued to pitch well, but with a far lower K rate. Pimentel should be in the GCL in 2013. |
