WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES

Garcia was already 19 when he signed and hasn’t shown much with the bat, but he appears to have some defensive ability behind the plate.  He’s shown a good arm, especially in 2013, and he allowed only two passed balls in 61 games caught between 2012 and 2013.

2011
DSL:  313/450/375, 32 AB, 2 2B, 5 BB, 4 K, 1-1 SB

Garcia hit well in very limited playing time in his debut season.

2012
DSL:  217/283/349, 83 AB, 7 2B, 2 3B, 5 BB, 19 K

Garcia caught about a third of his team’s games.  Other than showing some gap power, he didn’t do much at the plate.

2013
DSL:  207/265/256, 121 AB, 6 2B, 7 BB, 29 K

Garcia caught about half his team’s games.  He struggled even more at the plate, but threw out 23 of 49 base stealers (47%).

2014
A-:  200/212/246, 65 AB, 3 2B, 1 BB, 19 K

Garcia shared the catching duties at Jamestown with Taylor Gushue and Kevin Krause, catching a little more than a quarter of the team’s games.  He may have been called on to catch so much due to minor injuries to Gushue and Krause.  He didn’t hit at all.  Garcia threw out 23% of base stealers.

Garcia figures to be an organizational catcher at the lower levels.  He’s already eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
