WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES

Trey Supak is a projectable righty with a college commitment to Houston.  At 6’5″, 210 pounds, he has room to fill out his lanky frame.  He sits in the low-90s with his fastball, touching 94 MPH.  Supak doesn’t have much stamina, so he sees a drop in his velocity as he goes along.  He has a curve ball that has the chance to be average and his change-up also has potential to be average, giving him a chance to have three average pitches that he has good control over.  He could add velocity as he gets stronger.  Supak was rated 99th overall by Baseball America.  The Pirates signed Supak surprisingly quickly.  His bonus was $1M, $228,000 above the slot amount.

2014
R:  1-3-0, 4.88 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 24.0 IP, 4.1 BB/9, 7.9 K/9

Supak held his own in the GCL, showing a low-90s fastball and some control issues.  He had trouble with left-handed hitters, who batted 357/400/619 against him.  That included three of the four HRs he allowed.

Based on past practice, the most likely 2015 destination for Supak is Morgantown.
